West Ham sold Domingos Quina to Watford in the summer after only a short time in East London. Despite his recent performances, the Hammers shouldn’t regret his sale.
It’s always sad when a young hammers leaves the club. Quina didn’t come through the academy but had many people talking about the potential he carried in his feet. However the Portuguese midfielder wasn’t long for West Ham, spending 2 years at the club and only making a senior level appearance in the Europa League.
His recent performances have excited a few fans at Watford, especially his goal against Cardiff which turned out to be the winner. He obviously has football talent, and there were staff at the club saying we’d wish he was still our player in a few years. And I understand that in pure footballing terms. But I don’t think it will haunt us for too long.

When building a squad of players ability and personality are both important factors. You’d be stupid to look at United’s squad and think they’re not quality players. But the players themselves don’t seem to want to gel with each other. There are a lot of big players and big egos, and that can’t always work.
Quina didn’t leave for footballing reasons. West Ham to Watford isn’t a move up by any stretch, and he would have got opportunities if he had stayed. He’s only playing at Watford because of injuries. He left because his agent likes to cause issues, regularly pushes for new contracts and transfers to other clubs. This is the same man who manages Reece Oxford as well.
If Quina has a good season and any big clubs become interested he will be off. His head won’t so much be turned but shoved in the direction of a potential big club by his agent, and you could even see the last few weeks of the season being marked by comments from his agent saying he has been denied a move, or the current contract isn’t enough. He isn’t going to sit at Watford.
If he proves to be the player we think he could be, he wouldn’t have sat around in East London. Even if we had started doing well, his agent would see the dollar signs of a big transfer or big contract which the David’s wouldn’t have signed up for. I don’t think there was a likely scenario where Quina turns out a good footballer and remains in East London. And that’s something we need to accept. Even if he does come back to haunt us at the weekend.
