Player: Winston Reid

Position: Central Defence

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Previous Role

Winston Reid ha been with the club since 2010, and when fit he has proven himself a gritty defender who is willing to put himself in harms way for the side. He has captained the side on a few occasions and famously scored the winning goal in the last ever match at the Boleyn against United. He’s definitely a fan favourite, but has been struggling with injury issues in the last few seasons.

Expected Return Date: January 29

Role on Return

Reportedly set to be back at the end of January, we will have to just wait and see how fit he is. Reid has had a number of injuries over the past few years and the fact we kept on forcing him back, because he was our best defender, meant it didn’t get to heal properly. Now we have a settled central two, Ogbonna is capable of stepping in and as such we can take our time with Reid.

At 30 years old he still has some good years to give at the club and I certainly think he is good enough. But we don’t have to be hasty anymore and I would like to give him time. I also don’t know if he would force our Diop or Balbuena in their current form. Given that those two are both younger than him as well, we’re unlikely to need Reid to be at full match fitness too much this season.
