GSH predicts West Ham’s midweek match against Cardiff
Are West Ham about to go on a wonderful run through December? Can we move up the table into the position the fans feel we deserve? After the comfortable Newcastle win, can the Hammers iron out consistency issues against Cardiff?
Adam: West Ham to win 2-0
West Ham are riding high right now and I don’t see Premier League newcomers Cardiff City getting in their way. The biggest challenge for the Hammers will be their own team selection. Arnautovic should be rested, Cresswell looks unlikely, Zaba is probably going to be replaced by Antonio; it’s going to be a very different looking team.
The silver lining is that barring the incredible, Cardiff are a bit challenged when it comes to scoring goals. With Diop and Balbuena in form right now, the second tier team that Cardiff are fielding don’t have the personnel to disrupt that balance. Now, let’s not look past them thought and learn from our Brighton and Huddersfield mistakes
Jeff: 2-0 to the Hammers
Its a quick turnaround for West Ham United as they return to the pitch to host Cardiff City just three days after the trip to St James Park.
It will be interesting to see how the club and Manuel Pellegrini deal with it both in the lineup he chooses and how the club handles some success coming on the heels of the decisive win at the weekend. The club has yet to win back to back matches. There also figures to be a few new players inserted into the starting XI both due to injury and rotation.

But historically, the Hammers have had little trouble with Cardiff having won their last six in all competitions and outscoring them 14-2 in that span. Cardiff also comes into this match off a win (over Wolves) but don’t seem to play particularly well in London. They have an extra day of rest offset by that travel. As an Irons supporter, of course, I am leery of a match like this in a spot like this. But I have faith that West Ham is simply a better, deeper, bigger club—and playing at home. COYI
Scott: 3-0 West Ham win
If we play anything like we did against Newcastle we’ll sweep Cardiff away at the London Stadium. And I so hope we do. Not only would we beat Neil Warnock, who I can’t stand, but we’d win back to back Premier League games for the first time since January…2017. To put that in context, that was when Payet left. That was a different side under a different manager.
Quite simply I don’t think it matters who we play up front, if we make a number of changes or Cardiff have a good game. We are a better side and have to show it. These ‘tricky’ games need to become more par for the course, and only playing better in them will do that. The Hammers should look to dominate and get as many chances off as possible. I’d like to see a demolition exercise.
Jeremiah: 4-1 Win
Beating the Magpies away was undoubtedly a shock for me. I admittedly did not think we would get 3 points away from home but we did! And looked good doing it! Up next, Cardiff City at home.
Yes I know we haven’t put up back to back PL victories in 68 matches. But with the new look formation and the fact that I truly feel the Hammers are in form we come out fast and quick and pile it on them! 4-1 in the bag, COME ON YOU IRONS!
