West Ham travel to the Premier League’s northernmost club on Saturday, in a game they want to win to regain momentum. The loss last week against City must be forgotten, but will Benitez’s side be too tricky? Our writers give their thoughts.

Adam: 3-0 to West Ham

Eternal optimist or eventually right? I’m hoping for the latter, but who knows. I watched Newcastle play Burnley, a team West Ham emasculated, and they didn’t look all that impressive. I know Benitez drills his teams well and I know Salomon Rondon is a fierce aerial duelist but I think West Ham matches up well on paper against the Newcastle team.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Kennedy scares me a but just because he has the flair and ability to do something dramatic, but outside of him I think our centre-backs can cancel out their target man, and I think Rice can disrupt Perez from his slick passing that he usually is able to get off.

The three goals is a bit of a wild suggestion away to Newcastle but I think West Ham gets one early, one near half, and one late to bury the match as Newcastle tries to pour on the pressure. If Carroll plays I think he’s got two in him and ill give the other to whoever else plays alongside him.

Jeremiah: 2-2 Draw

Newcastle… Newcastle away is tough. Their team has not been great as of now but playing them at home can be rough and we aren’t in the best form either. I do think that we will show up with a more poised attack but I foresee struggles on defense again. You can’t take last week lightly but it was Man City. Newcastle is not Man City but their home support will get behind them. I predict a tough fought battle but I hope at best we can pull out a point from this! COME ON YOU IRONS!

Scott: 2-0  to West Ham

Last week was a strange game of many emotions. We didn’t play too badly but we gave up 4 clear chances and conceded 4 goals, but couldn’t put them away at the other end. Whilst we need to improve on that there are promising signs and Newcastle will not be as probing or as clinical as Manchester City. And I think we’ll control the game.

The Magpies have been on a hot streak recently but their playing style isn’t exactly electric and their defense is anything but solid. I expect our wingers will find a lot of joy and although they can attack with power and height Diop and Balbuena can cope there. Rice will be instrumental in disrupting their midfield, but I’m confident we’ll be back on top. 3 points to push into December with.

Jeff: 2-1 to West Ham

If West Ham United are to walk away from St James Park with a victory, they are going to have to change some alarming recent trends vs Newcastle.

The Irons now have lost three straight to the ‘Toons. Rafa Benitez has won six of his seven home matches against West Ham in charge. In the other technical area, Manuel Pellegrini has only won one of his first six away matches at the helm of his club.

Next. Could Arnie injury pave way for Carroll?. dark

First, the Hammers absolutely have got to finish their chances when they come and score more than 1 goal in this match. Secondly, they have to score first. And finally, they have to approach this match the same way they did vs Manchester City—with intent and attitude, and learn from previous away matches in which they decided to start playing only after halftime. Away at Brighton and Huddersfiled come to mind.

I see West Ham able to do that here. 2-1 to the Hammers. COYI
