West Ham are certainly in the market for some January reinforcements for the upcoming transfer window. With Chelsea sitting in a fine position and their depth being a strong point of their team, a few players could come cross-London and step into the West Ham team.

The players are Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Victor Moses as ExWHUEmployee has revealed on his West Ham Way podcast with Dave Walker and Kevin Slade of Sex, Drugs, and Carlton Cole. One is a promising young, English midfielder and the other is a player who previously spent time at West Ham at right-back.  Both are players who would help an injury-ridden West Ham, and both should be sought after hard.

Oh, and both should have a buying option at the end of their loan deal.

Victor Moses

The Nigerian international has been passed by a few different players at Chelsea and is honestly probably a real candidate to come (back) to West Ham possibly for a permanent deal, too. Moses spent the 2015/16 season on loan at West Ham from Chelsea where he tallied 1 goal and 2 assists in 21 matches. He was primarily played at right-back, but with more experience now he can play right wing, wingback, and central midfielder, too.

Moses is an interesting candidate because of that history with West Ham. He would be coming back to a team with little in the way of obstacles holding him back from starting every week in that right wing spot with Yarmolenko out. Grady Diangana may be pressuring him for game time, but with Michail Antonio likely gone in January it would essentially be a two horse race.

Moses in and Antonio out would also inject more youth into the team and would bring a different mentality. Moses has the positional versatility, as mentioned above, and would bring with him the experience of winning and playing at a top-6 team provided him. The expectations are higher there, and an injection of motivation and quality could be a good fit for West Ham.

As for a loan deal, Pellegrini would probably like to take the summer and fully scout across Europe and South America for alternatives for the right wing position should Yarmolenko be out even longer than originally believed. A possibility for loan-to-buy could be there, especially with Chelsea seemingly full on wingers and right-sided fullbacks, if Pellegrini would want one. I would assume a buy option wouldn’t exceed the £10-15m range.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Now this one is exciting. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a stud in the making and really showed off his talents when playing for England in the 2018 World Cup. He saw 274 minutes of match time in four games and impressed with his efforts, size, physicality, and ability to jump up in the play with ease.

He spent last season with Crystal Palace on loan and in 24 Premier League matches scored 2 goals and added four assists. He was an everyday starter for Palace and only missed time due to injury, which saw him miss 14 games spread across that season.

As it stands now, RLC has only played in two matches in the Premier League this season, tallying just 33 minutes of match time. At West Ham, he would walk into the starting XI, most likely in place of Pedro Obiang, as Pellegrini seems to like using a midfield three to support his attacking players.

A loan seems likely here for Loftus-Cheek just because he is a 22-year-old, English born player with immense potential. Should Chelsea continue their strong Premier League season, West Ham could sneak in a bid nearing potentially £25 million to permanently secure his services. That figure may seem like a lot for a player who has shown more potential than performance, but RLC is an elite player and one who can become an every day, box-to-box midfielder for West Ham if given the chance.

He is buried by Jorjinho, Kovacic, Kante, Barkley, and even Danny Drinkwater who was given bench spots over him under Mauricio Sarri. He needs starting minutes and his lack of playing time now could see him expendable for the right price. Break the bank for this one, West Ham.
