More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Pros: Full back who regularly supports team’s attack, 1 assist so far this season, cheapest member of the defence (alongside Diop)

Cons: Could be replaced by Fredericks going forward, defence is still leaky

When the Hammers signed Fredericks in the summer many thought Zabaleta would be used more as a back up. Wrong. His defensive awareness, leadership and inability to accept the fact he is getting older has made him a permanent fixture in the Hammers side so far. And it looks set to stay that way.

Despite Fredericks waiting in the wings the Argentine shows no signs of slowing down. His assist to Anderson in the United match shows he still likes getting involved in the attacking matchups, and with so called ‘easier’ fixtures coming up I’m hoping we see him swinging in a few more crosses from deep towards the Hammers attack.

Playing behind a right winger who likes to cut in (Yarmo is injured now, but Snodgrass is likely to be his replacement), he will get on the overlap regularly. I think the Hammers will start to sure up defensively, and if he remains a fixture in the side then Zabaleta is likely to pick up more attacking returns than his defensive teammates.
