Finally, after the outrageous wait of 7 Premier League games, record signing Felipe Anderson has scored. West Ham fans had been forced to wait so very long for the moment, it was almost not celebrated.
When you pay 40m for a player, you expect results. You may expect to wait a game or two, but no longer. The fact West Ham had to wait 7 games for a goal from Felipe Anderson was ridiculous. He had to adapt to a new country, manager, team and culture but surely that only take a few minutes? I mean the rest of the new signings bedded in straight away and had no issues whatsoever, and no new signing ever has.
Everyone knows that all record signings have just slipped into teams and started scoring. So why on earth were we forced to wait so long for a return from the Brazilian? He’s done nothing except for work hard, create chances, get back defensively and hold the ball well. I mean, it’s ridiculous!

I hope by now you’ve all picked up the sarcasm in my article. Anderson has been improving on a game by game basis, and I’m delighted he’s got his first goal. Now hopefully the armchair fans who want players to score in every game can give him a rest? I know some people like being miserable, but it must be tiring. There will be times to moan as a West Ham fan, but this isn’t it. He’s playing well for a new signing and helping us get some great results.
When a new players signs, he has no control over the fee that the new club pays for him. The club place the value on the player, not the player on himself. So a lot of the criticism of new players because of their fee is unfair, they’re just trying to play football. And the first few games don’t make a player. Thierry Henry played 9 games before his first goal, and he was a striker. So 7 games for Anderson is pretty good for me.
He’s been heavily involved in both attack and defence over the past few weeks, shown by his 25 tackles so far this season and 50 ball recoveries. He has also shown in the last few games he can cut it against big defences. With a goal under his belt relatively early on and an improving side around him, we should be excited about his development. He has an all round player feel to him, and I think he could prove to be a great investment by the club.
