Green St Hammers staff predict West Ham v Chelsea
West Ham take on Chelsea today at the London Stadium. Can the Hammers build upon their big win against Everton to surprise Sarri’s men?
With Chelsea having a perfect run so far this season, West Ham are up against it today. However there is an air of confidence after last weeks win. Pellegrini will have spent all week looking at ways to combat the Blues attacking flair, can they get a surprise win?
Adam – West Ham 2-1 Chelsea
West Ham will carry the momentum they created against Everton into this home match against Chelsea and nab a win. It wont be without some close calls and tense moments, but Chelsea are coming off of late Europa League action don’t have adequate time to prepare for the hammers.
I think this could be a pivotal match in Hammer’s season and a crucial first step in the London Stadium transforming into a fortress for the home side. Look for Anderson to get on the scoresheet for his first goal of the season… probably on a counter attack.
Jeff – Chelsea Win 3-1
What a difference a week makes for West Ham. The complete team win over Everton has everyone feeling pretty good about the club—just in time for a London derby vs the pre-weekend table-toppers Chelsea at London Stadium.

Chelsea come in unbeaten under their new manager. Two of their five wins I would consider vs quality opponents. They have scored 14 goals on the season while allowing just 4. Their strength in midfield led by Hazard and Kante is going to be the area of battle.
However, the Hammers did not lose to Chelsea last season bagging 4 of a possible 6 points including a key 1-0 win under David Moyes last December. So anything can happen. The 4-3-3 formation seems to suit West Ham’s personnel well and I expect it to be employed again here. But I just don’t think it matters much against this opponent at this time. The Hammers continue their form of playing “better” but it’s still not enough to get a result. I see this as another loss; 3-1 to Chelsea.
Jeremiah – 2-1 to West Ham
Last week was wow! Finally the Hammers were able to turn a dismal start into a promising explosion of offense and solid midfield play. Now no, I can’t get to optimist. After all this is all the West Ham way. Win games we should lose and well vise versa. Which is why I predict this week to go the same. The Stadium will be rocking for this London derby and my hope is the combo of Arni, Anderson, and Yarmo upfront can keep them on there toes and a strong midfield can hold that stout Chelsea lineup.
With Hazard back and on fire as of late it does frighten me but I have to believe with the defense tightening up and the midfield playing in form they can be controlled. Maybe I’m not as scared as I should be for Chelsea but I just have a feeling we will walk away with another one and get 2 wins in as many weeks!
Scott – 2-2
Chelsea are perfect so far this season, and although I enjoyed West Ham’s performance last week I don’t think we’ll inflict their first defeat. However if we pack out the stadium and give them something to think about I think they will drop points.
The Blues had to fly back late form their Europa League game and whilst I don’t think it will have a massive effect on all of them, it might just give us an edge. With confidence hopefully returning to Pellegrini and his team I am excited. The front three are fast and dangerous, and if we get as many chances as Arsenal did we should score a couple. I just don’t trust our backline to grab a clean sheet quite yet.
