West Ham Handed Boost Ahead of Everton Match
By Adam Smith
West Ham are still looking for their first win of the Premier League season and Everton are next in line to battle the Irons. The East London club must take advantage of a depleted Everton squad to nab their first three points of the season.
For a team missing their big target man, most veteran center back, and most talented playmaker West Ham have rebounded well with fit players to fill out their squad so far this season. On the other hand, Everton, who like us brought in a large crop of new players, are struggling with match-fit and eligible players ahead of their upcoming match.
Here are the players listed as injured or ineligible as per Everton’s team website:
- Theo Walcott – Rib: Return unknown
- Yerry Mina – Foot: Return unknown
- Michael Keane – Hairline Skull Fracture: Return September
- Phil Jagielka – Knee: Return September
- James McCarthy – Broken Leg: Return unknown
- Idrissa Gana Gueye – Sprained Knee: Return September
- Andre Gomes – Hamstring: Return unknown
- Richarlison – Suspended
This list of impressive players possibly missing the West Ham match is an opportunity for the Irons.

Both Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes were deadline acquisitions by the Toffees. These players have yet to feature for Everton in any match and West Ham will be lucky to avoid them as well. Both players were acquired from Barcelona and Mina is coming off of an impressive performance for Colombia at the world cup, while Gomes has quietly put together a strong resume in LaLiga playing 109 matches for Barca.
With Mina, Keane, and Jagielka possibly out West Ham will likely see Kurt Zouma, another transfer acquisition slot into the backline. Veteran right-back Seamus Coleman as also picked up an injury on international duty with Ireland and is a doubt for the weekend match removing another key player for Everton’s defense.
The Irons need to prey on this opportunity and these three players will be crucial to doing so: Robert Snodgrass, Felipe Anderson, and Marko Arnautovic. If this trio can hold onto possession and probe for opportunity down Everton’s right side then the HAmmers can seriously threaten throughout the match.
Despite the injuries to the squad, Everton can still field a strong team. Bernard will be making his Premier League debut for Everton in this match. The Brazilian winger rejected a move to East London after Everton swooped late for his services. Regulars Cenk Tosun and Gylif Sigurdsson will also be starting which will provide Everton with a solid amount of firepower up top.
Everton’s injury troubles are a small break but one West Ham cannot afford to let slip as points are now at a premium and time is running out for excuses for losses.
