West Ham Player Analysis Review: Holding Midfielders
By Adam Smith
Jack Wilshere 5/10
Some may disagree with Wilshere getting this rating but he has been the only semblance of a quality midfielder in the West Ham squad. Ranking West Ham’s best midfielder a generous 5/10 should contextualize the area of greatest concern for West Ham, but Wilshere does possess all the tools to turn this ship around.
The good news is that Pellegrini has decided that Wilshere will hold down one of the two holding midfield positions which should allow him to not worry about being dropped and just play. Similarly, constantly picking Wilshere will offer the consistency that this team has needed so far.
Wilshere possesses game-breaking skills and needs to get back to his promising form of a few seasons ago. He should be the heir apparent to Noble’s on-field leader position but needs to earn that by putting in full shifts and impacting the game positively. I feel for Wilshere though, this is not a top-6 team with elite world class teammates. With some hard work, however, there is no excuse for Wilshere and co. to get it together and start getting some results.
