West Ham Player Analysis Review: Holding Midfielders
By Adam Smith
Pedro Obiang 2/10
The lowest yet to be ranked, Pedro Obiang is coming in at a staggeringly low 2/10 for his two performances this season. West Ham’s holding midfield has been a mess so far and he has only played 26 minutes of Premier League action, not able to win a spot in the starting XI.

In his 26 minutes of relief time against Wolves for Jack Wilshere, Obiang was 100% on tackles winning both that he attempted. This is his calling card and most desirable skill. When he’s on his game Obiang is a tackling machine, it’s what endeared fans to him two seasons ago (when he won 89% of his tackles), but that has been lacking so far this season.
Along with his sub appearance against Wolves Obiang was a starter for West Ham against Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup. He took a foul early which gave the opposition a dangerous chance against and was subbed at halftime for Anderson. Wimbledon was down to ten men but Obiang couldn’t seem to get anything going against a man down League One side.
Obiang wanted to leave West Ham this offseason to return to Sampdoria in Serie A in Italy, if he keeps up this form he’ll be gone before long.
