Reece Oxford stuck in limbo at West Ham as deadline approaches
There have been many rumours surrounding Reece Oxford this summer, and it’s not stopping. Will West Ham stick or twist with their youngster?
It doesn’t seem like too long ago that we were picking Oxford as a future West Ham captain after his performance against Arsenal. However since then things have turned sour for the defender at the club. Whilst he still has talent his attitude has been called into question, and failed loans have raised further comments about if he will make the step up.
Over the summer it was a case of one story saying he was gone then the next putting him at the club. However with just over a week left of Europe’s transfer window he is still at the club, with no immediate suitors. Will he be in East London come September 1st?

Pellegrini’s Decision
Whilst I’m sure that every Hammers fan has an opinion on this there’s only one that matters. The managers. Obviously I don’t have a direct line to Pellegrini so I don’t know what’s on his mind, but the recent defensive issues can’t have made this choice much easier. With a poor showing from the first XI, young defensive backups are more useful than if you have a tight backline.
I am all for youngsters getting their shot at the club, because it’s how players are discovered and how we progress as a club. But with repeated issues over his behaviour I wouldn’t be sad to see him go. You only have to listen to ExWhuEmployee’s rants about Oxford’s agent to know that there is more at stake here than playing time and feeling wanted. There are almost constant noises about moving clubs and holding out for better deals.
Whilst everyone in this life is entitled to try and earn as much as they can during their career, in a sport as lucrative and as in demand as football there’s probably more to gain from actually playing. Oxford may need to change agent to get in favour at clubs, because most clubs don’t like it when they’re told what to do my an agent.
Pellegrini has a decision to make, however, and there will be unhappy people either way. If he trusts Oxford to get down and work hard, then good. I will however be gutted if he moves on only to become the talent we hoped he would be.
