Snodgrass can offer something to the side

Despite being sent out on loan to the Championship last season, Snodgrass did not look out of place at Anfield. He played in the more forward role of the midfield and seemed much more comfortable on the ball than any of the other midfielders.

Having been written off by many fans he has still received some stick simply for still being at the club, but Pellegrini would not have kept him there if he didn’t think he could do the job. Now, after the Liverpool game I do think he fits the more technical style of the Chilean’s gameplan. Whilst there wasn’t much chance to show it, he could be a useful player with good set piece delivery and wide passing range.

I hope that we aren’t relying too much on Snodgrass to provide creative spark for much of our campaign, but as a backup option I feel he offers a lot more than Antonio for example. Antonio is very much a simplistic player, lacking in the awareness that I think it will take to implement the style of football that Pellegrini wants to see in East London. Snodgrass isn’t a long term fix, but injuries and dips in form could see him given opportunities either centrally or on the right hand side.
