With the dawn of West Ham’s Premier League season upon us, we at Green Street Hammers have sat down and assembled our table predictions for 2018/19. The new manager, new players, and new ambition for this season have us aiming high.

Scott:

Finish: 7th Place

I think this could be one of the most memorable seasons in a while. Obviously, the last season at the Boleyn was one that will live long in the memory, but the team we have now is better and more robust across the board. If we gel immediately then I don’t know why West Ham shouldn’t be targeting even higher, but a lot of signings in the summer make a good start hard.

I think players like new players like Anderson and Yarmolenko will really help the Hammers pick up more goals, turning draws into wins and losses into draws. Wilshere, if he can play more than 30 Premier League games, could really drive the team from defense into attack. I don’t think that we need to fear anyone at home, and if played properly we could see some great results on the road as well.

Adam:

Finish: 6th(!) place

A bit audacious? Maybe, but West Ham’s players have had a cohesive preseason and are absorbing the playstyle Manuel Pellegrini expects of his players. The speed of West Ham’s attack capped off by the efficiency their strikers perform with should see them steal some hard points this season. Also, don’t sleep on West Ham’s defense. Pacey fullbacks and strong, physical center-backs should shore up the defensive deficiencies of seasons past.

The transfer window was such a success West Ham shouldn’t just be expecting a mid-table finish this season. They have the manager, they have the players, and they have no reason not to be reaching for European football, while making serious Cup runs too. They have added to their core of Arnautovic, Noble, Lanzini, and Rice with top class talent, it’s time to start succeeding.

Jeff:

Finish: 9th, 50 points

West Ham United will show marked improvement in the first year under Manager Manuel Pellegrini and finish 9th in the table on 50 points after two straight seasons of decline. No relegation battle this time around. But also no battle for the European places either.

The squad is better from top to bottom but it will take time to gel; we will have our share of injuries as usual—it’s the West Ham Way. The big 6 are always there but the competition to be the best of the rest is looking fierce heading into the season. The Hammers will have to contend with usual mid-table clubs Everton, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Watford. Plus newcomers Wolves and Fulham have shown they are serious about their Premier League ambitions with aggressive signings of their own.

Jeremiah:

Finish: 7th place

Being tasked with projecting a league table finish for West Ham can be a daunting job. My bias side says “We win the treble” but let’s be honest for a minute. Even with all of these amazing signings and our new head man we have to be realistic. Realistically I think a good finish is anywhere from 6th to 10th. To be more accurate I say we finish 7th with a cup final appearance and possibly a trophy.

How do we get there and why not higher? It’s tough to predict higher with what Liverpool have done and the like of the previous predecessors up top can do but still, 7th is nothing to slack off about. With a new attacking line and solid midfield and defense, we should be in line to surprise a few clubs while taking care of the clubs we should beat. With Anderson and Yarmo swinging it into Arnautovic and Pellegrini at the helm of this “experiment” the skies the limit. For now, Come on You Irons!
