Yarmolenko, 18m

Risk Factor: B-

Having spoken to a few Dortmund fans they weren’t hugely gutted to see him leave because of his tendency to blow hot and cold. Whilst they loved it when he was on form, his ability to disappear wasn’t something the fans enjoyed. Having not played before in the Premier League he does carry some risk, but his ability is not in question. 35 goals in 77 international games for Ukraine doesn’t happen by chance.

Value for Money: B+

A fee of around 18-20m represents pretty good value in this day and age, but it could be considered a risk because of his age. At 28 he may not have huge resale value in the future, and the Hammers are likely to make a loss on him if they do sell in a couple of years. Despite that he is an exciting player and someone who represents a new threat for other teams to watch out for. He could well earn his transfer value back with some key goals for the side.

Squad Improvement: A

Yarmolenko adds variety and excitement into the squad, and makes our First XI much more dangerous going forward. He certainly beats others to the first team when fully fit and in form, but his tendency to go off the boil is what stops this being an A+. Good player and at time great, but not a player that you could consider a star. Yet.

Overall Grade: B+

I think this is a really good move for Pellegrini, and someone who could score a lot of important goals. However with his attitude potentially holding him back, and no Premier League experience, I think he presents the most risk out of all of our summer signings so far. This time next year we could be talking about him as Hammers of the season, flop of the season or somewhere in between.
