Grading West Ham’s Transfer Window
Fabianski, 7m
Risk Factor: A-
Signing a goalkeeper is always a risky business, because form plays such a huge part in their performances. A goalkeeper can have huge belief in himself at one club and then not carry it through to another. However I hope Fabianski feels more secure at West Ham than he did at now relegated Swansea. He hasn’t had injuries and has been a regular in the Premier League since moving on from Arsenal. Very little risk in this signing.
Value for Money: A
6m for a Premier League keeper? Ok Fabianski is not at the start of his career, but he would still be able to play at Premier League level for the next few years given that he is a goalkeeper. When you see goalkeepers being moved around for upwards of 50m the fact the Hammers have been able to improve this position without spending too much is good value for money in my eyes.
Squad Improvement: A-
Does he improve on Adrian? In my eyes yes. It’s not a huge move up but I think the Polish stopper brings a lot more consistency to the side and should improve the defensive side of things. I don’t expect De Gea level of expected goals stopped, but his shot stopping is well regarded and that will help the Hammers in their attempt to move up the table.
Overall Grade: A
6m for a player that is likely to nail down a first choice place? Thats good value and sensible transfer business whether you’re looking at this from a football perspective or a business one.
