Grading West Ham’s Transfer Window
Perez, 4m
Risk Factor: A
Signing a Premier League striker that can contribute a goal or assist every 80 minutes? Sounds good to me! Perez was hugely underutilised at Arsenal and showed last season in La Liga that he is both creative and clinical when given the opportunity. With no major injuries in his career and consistent returns, Perez carries no risk as a backup.

Value for Money: A+
4m. In this market? You can’t complain in any way shape or form about this kind of fee, and at 29 Perez is hardly unproven or over the hill. He’s not simply adding numbers to the squad but bringing quality with him as well, so this is a great move from the transfer team.
Squad Improvement: A-
He doesn’t get the top grade for this one because he’s not being signed for the first XI. He certainly improves our back up options, making sure that when we have a need to rotate the quality doesn’t drop off. This could help us push for cup success and deal with tough schedules.
Overall Grade: A
This transfer is low cost, low risk and beneficial to the club as a whole. How could this be anything less than an A? I agree it’s not blockbuster, it’s not breaking records and I don’t expect Perez to play ahead of Arnie and Chicharito, but this is a good move by the Hammers.
