Strikers: Chicharito/Carroll                    Wingers: Anderson/Yarmolenko

Although I hate to imagine it, there will be a time that Arnautovic will not be able to play in a match for the Hammers. Whether he needs a rest, or he does something stupid again and gets suspended, these games will happen. In this example I think that a classic big man/little man combo could be the Hammers best bet to trouble defences.

Obviously this isn’t a particularly subtle formation, but it could really work when we lose our most effective player. Andy Carroll is a huge presence in the box and could well work at dragging players away from Chicharito, creating goals just through being on the pitch. The Mexican finisher doesn’t need much invitation to score either.

On the wings, the West Ham newboys would still be free to create chances and threaten the defence themselves. With their trickery and speed they can really push defences back, and we could be an attacking threat even without last season’s top scorer.

In this formation Antonio and Snodgrass could also come in, playing on either side. As we’ve seen this pre-season Snodgrass still has something to offer in an attacking sense, and with two very effective, if different, strikers in the box this could be a solid alternative without our Austrian firestarter.
