Is it time we forgive the Ownership at West Ham United?

Tonight as I am sitting by my fire in Colorado, joyful that the Premier League starts up in just a few weeks, I cannot help but think is it time we forgive the ownership at West Ham United?

Whoa!  Did I just say that? Unbelievably I did and before you fellow West Ham fans hit the unfollow button and move on with your day I have a few things for us to think about.

The Transfer Market

The board at West Ham did promise us that since we are in a “World Class” Stadium we will have world-class players. Has that happened? Some would say no, or not until this year but lets look back at the past few summer transfer windows.

In 2015 we signed the likes of Ogbonna, Antonio, Obiang, Lanzini, and the snake Dimitri Payet. Yes Payet is dead and gone but as for the others you would be hard pressed to not find them in the Hammers starting eleven or at least the bench. And Payet was, unfortunately, very good.

In 2016 the board slipped up a bit with a few horrific signings by the likes of Zaza, Calleri, Nordveit, etc. leaving our first window in our new stadium a disaster. But we still did manage to find Masuaku.  And then last year, in my opinion, was our breakout year as far as transfers go signing Zaba, Chicha, Arni, and still to be seen Haksabanovic.

Now we all know the story of this summers signings. World Class, in this contributors opinion, and possibly more to come in the following weeks leading up to the close of the window. Do these names stand out as World Class?  Some yes, some still to be seen but you cannot doubt the board of Sullivan, Gold, and Brady (it still makes me ill to say her name) have had ambition in the market.

The “World Class Stadium”

Our home will forever be Upton Park and I will take that to my grave but the London Stadium can be a fortress if we make it that way. In this part of the promise I do believe that the ownership has let us down.  The astro turf is atrocious, the gaps between levels makes it look like a joke, and the gap to the pitch can be frustrating at times, especially when we are all still used to the tightness and comfort of Upton Park.

But do we own the stadium? No, not yet. Did they promise it can happen over night? No this isn’t FIFA or Football Manager.

Now before you start labeling me a board lover and sympathizer know that I am not.  But I do have to say that it is time to forgive West Ham United’s owners, at least in part. That way I hope that we can only continue looking for that fortune that has been hiding from us for so long.  As always ladies and mates, Come on you Irons!
