It’s summer. The sun is shining and the transfer window is open. So that means there must be crazy rumours around. For now they’re centring on West Ham’s Arnautovic.

In a time before social media, rumours were harder to come by. Unless you knew someone at the club, or a player, you only learnt about moves when they were published in a paper or announced by a club. But now anyone with a computer can start up a West Ham account and post random rubbish. So it’s no surprise Arnautovic is a target of this summers rumours.

The media was going crazy pre-World Cup when Mourinho turned up to watch Austria play Russia. Surely a move to Man United was on the cards! Nope, it just turned out it was the manager in his role as a pundit for Russian tv. So how did this new rumour start? And is there any truth to it?

Rumour Mill Overload

Any transfer window there are a whole load of rumours, but only some catch the interest of the public. You need the right ingredients. A big name player will get more attention than a unknown, a big club involved will get the article shared more but the thing that really helps is supporter expectation. Do the supporters expect, or fear, a similar move?

With West Ham signing a number of big money players there has been worry among some fans. Can the club afford this under FFP? Will there need to be a sale of a big player? Others are worrying that the summer has been too good for us, something must go wrong soon. So a rumour that Arnautovic was up for sale to a big Italian club? That ticks a lot of boxes and has been around twitter the past few days.

But no, it holds no water. There has been no noise out of the club asking people to calm expectations. There have been no hints from official club sources. Club oracle ExWhuEmployee says there is no truth he is up for sale. Whether clubs are interested is anyones guess. However given the summer signings we’ve made I would be very surprised if we sold Marko without him asking to leave.

So relax and enjoy the weather. Arnautovic is a big part of Pellegrini’s plans going forward, and I’m very excited to see where this season takes us. Could we see a surge back up the league?
