Whilst West Ham are looking to sign new players, some current players may move on. What will happen to Chicharito under Pellegrini this summer?

With players coming in, you always have to try and balance the squad. West Ham don’t have a limitless budget and some players will be sold this summer. After being signed under much fanfare last summer Chicharito had a frustrating year, being rotated by Bilic and almost excluded by Moyes. Will he stay now Pellegrini is manager?

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Initial indications were fairly mixed, after the Mexican didn’t seem to enamoured when talking about the appointment of Pellegrini at a press conference. As he is yet to return to training after the World Cup things haven’t really progressed, but it is thought that Pellegrini wants the Mexican to stay.

In or out?

There are many issues at play here, but Chicharito is ambitious and likes to win. If he was offered a starting place at a club in European competition, or a chance to win trophies on the Mexican side of the Atlantic I think he’d want to leave. He likes to compete and he likes to be on top.

Given his age and recent record I don’t think there are too many European teams interested in giving him a starting place. He would definitely be a useful player for most, but not a starting XI guaranteed. If he went to the MLS or Mexican league, he’d be playing every week for sure.

Pellegrini likes to have a variety of strikers at his disposal, and is also said to be keen on keeping Carroll. The ability to pick and choose your attacking threat is a big part of the Chilean’s strategy. He likes to be variable and have options, and Chicharito represents the perfect poacher. Alongside another striker he will always be in with a chance of a goal.

I hope he stays, because he gets goals. Even when you don’t think he can he pops up at the back post, or in the crowd to poke it home. Those goals could be vital if we want to push up the league and make an impact this season. If we don’t keep the Mexican I fear we become slightly one dimensional up front.
