West Ham look set to sell Mexican striker Chicharito in the summer. After only joining last summer, fans are split on the decision.

For many seasons West Ham and their fans were calling a top class finisher. So when we signed Hernandez last year, it all seemed to make sense. However this season he has been used sparingly, through not much fault of his own.

Now it seems that he is to leave in the summer, and I for one will be very disappointed. Here is a player who constantly gets goals in tough situations, something we have been missing. But given who is in charge and making strategic decisions, using him like this for another season makes no sense at all.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

All in all it’s not surprising, but for me it’s disappointing. Over the past season we’ve played a game that has revolved around defense first and a striker who’s effectively playing wither purely as a target man or as an advanced midfielder. Our inability to pair that with Hernandez has been a huge failure.

Moyes has never been a fan of players like Hernandez, because he thinks the whole team need to work at all points. Hernandez will not get back if he’s playing striker, and a lot of the time he looks lazy. But to be honest he gets goals, everywhere he’s been. And over the past few seasons, and to be honest at almost any time in football, improving our goalscoring is necessary.

However it seems that the board are set to keep Moyes, and we won’t keep Hernandez in the current setup. The Mexican will get gametime elsewhere, gametime he deserves. I would much rather see us sell Andy Carroll and keep Hernandez, but I’m not in charge.

If we’re selling Hernandez we have to understand his goals will not be easy to replace. I wouldn’t want to sell him unless I had a solid striker option coming in, because we waited years for a goalscoring option like Hernandez but it seems we now can’t wait to get rid of him.
