West Ham are looking to strengthen the right back area of the club this summer. But it seems they will have to fight to get Fulhamโ€™s Ryan Fredericks.

David Moyes has already started looking at the summer transfer window after a quiet January failed to add much. The past few summers have been poor recruitment wise, and the whole club wants an improvement. Getting young players who can improve the squad in is one of the main priorities.

Ryan Fredericks is heavily rumored to be close to signing a free deal, as his contract at Fulham is up in the summer. He has been impressing in recent games and it looks like there are a lot of interest parties. And its obvious that Fulham fans want him to stay as well.

Some of them even begged him to sign, some saying that the Hammers could themselves be in the Championship next year as well!

With Zabaleta ageing and Byram failing to really make the grade at right back, many fans see the signing of Fredericks as a no-brainer if it can get done. It would be zero-fee (bar the signing on fee) and would involve minimal moving for the player.

The Hammers have some history in bringing younger defenders up to help the squad, and when Cresswell originally made the move from Ipswich he was one of the clubโ€™s best players. Given the pace and defensive workrate shown by Fredericks I think he could well be a great signing for the club.

He is likely to be moving in the summer, and David Moyes should be making his move. If Fredericks is allowed to move elsewhere due to lack of a chase the fans will see this as another sign of the clubโ€™s bumblings in the transfer window. Confidence from the fans is key. But signing players that will improve the side is even more important.
