West Ham Transfer Rumours: No striker close to joining
West Ham look set to sell Diafra Sakho to Rennes today. But there appears to be no striker inbound.
One of the key tenants of any action in January is make sure you are no weaker by the end of it. West Ham failed that last year with the loss of Payet. Although Sakho is not a first team player, he needs to be replaced to make sure we’re not left short again.
The Hammers went into this month needing a dynamic midfielder, a reliable striker and probably a centreback. With injuries the need for a centreback as been pushed back, but the first two remained. The signing of Mario as a midfielder on loan was a great start, but a striker was needed even before the loss of Sakho. Now we really need to pull our finger out.

The board have recently stated on the club website that they are trying to get players in. I remain hopeful, but the board have let us down before. It’s been years since they promised us a top striker, and although I think Chicharito is a top player he is not one that fit our system. He needs to be supported constantly, and we’re not capable of doing that.
If we leave the side with Carroll, Chicharito and Martinez as our only out and out strikers we are really tying ourselves down. They are all very one dimensional players and each one requires a certain gameplay. Moyes needs a striker he can fit into a few different systems, because right now we’re struggling.
Next: West Ham should cut their losses with Carroll
I wasn’t a Sakho fan but he is the type of striker we need. Someone who can play on the shoulder if necessary, or turn into more of a targetman. My ideal choice would be Sturridge, but his injury record is about as good as Carroll’s and I’m not sure the board will risk big wages on someone like that. Batshuayi looked possible at the start of the window, but his recent good form may well have tipped that chance away.
