Tottenham vs West Ham: Preview and Predictions
By Amanda Paula
West Ham visit Tottenham at Wembley Stadium in the Carabao Cup.
West Ham come in for their third match in the Carabao Cup. Instead of what we have seen in the Premier League, in this competition the Hammers side is still unbeaten, they have got two wins over Cheltenham and Bolton. Not such an impressive record now. To continue their improvement the Hammers will look to beat a bigger team and this time they will have Tottenham as their adversary, at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.
The Hammers have three absences confirmed on the Official Website. Michail Antonio will be out after suffered a knock against Brighton last week and the same for James Collins and Diafra Sakho. Nevertheless, the good news for the fans, or not too good as we believe, is that Andy Carroll and Adrian are coming up to start in the 11.

At the same time in the Spurs’ side, Harry Kane is set to be rested so he might be the major absence in the matchup. Besides him, Victor Wanyama still is out. Simultaneously, after a year without being playing at the Spurs shirt, Erik Lamela is coming to be on the bench, in addition as was said by Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday, Moussa Dembele might be available to start as well as Danny Rose.
Why West Ham Could Win
Tottenham has been flying in the Premier League and Champions League so far. However, are they really focused on the EFL Cup? The recent rumour suggest that Spurs’ boss Pochettino may be thinking to set a B team. Which means they are not too worried about this competition. This is definitely good news for the Hammers. Especially if Tottenham plays without Harry Kane and Dele Alli for the derby.
Besides Kane names like Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama remain recovering from their injuries. Pochettino does not have a lot of expectation to win the game, especially because they are flying in other competitions.
Moreover, the Hammers have two victories in the Football League Cup; they won Cheltenham and Bolton last month. Instead of Tottenham, who do not need to convince their fans and the media to impress, the East Londoners must win, even if the match will be played at the Wembley Stadium. Perhaps the pressure makes it good for the players and they could steal a good result away.

Why Tottenham Could Win
Pochettino might be giving rotation to their team, but West Ham have not had a good season. Slaven Bilic has showed a lack of tactical understanding, which makes the things easier to Tottenham who are having one of the best tactical formations in Europe.
Another great plus for the Spurs is that Andy Carroll and Adrian are set to start. Yes, I am serious, Bilic has a great chance to put Carroll as the main forward and Chicharito as a winger; thus, another defeat will be predictable. With a lot of pressure on Bilic’s shoulders, the Croat does not like to change things that aren’t working. Which might push West Ham towards failure.

Predicted Lineups
Tottenham
Vorm; Walker-Peters, Foyth, Sanchez, Rose; Dembele, Dier; Sissoko, Alli, Son; Llorente.
West Ham
Adrian; Zabaleta, Fonte, Reid, Creswell; Koyaté, Noble; Anautovic, Lanzini, Chicharito and Carrol.
Verdict
It will be a tough game and despite being a fan I believe that West Ham will lose, especially because they are playing at Wembley. I hope that I am wrong. But it is almost impossible to believe a positive result is possible with the many rumours around the Hammers’ future.
