It’s no secret that West Ham are looking at managers. Whether it’s short term or long term, the club are going to be changing managers.
One of the key requirements the board are after is Premier League experience. Now there aren’t a whole host of managers wandering around that are both relevant and in possession of numerous years of Premier League experience. If they are good years then they’re likely still in the league, in a job. But what about one year?
Well two former Watford bosses, who in my opinion were harshly sacked, fit that bill. Quique Sanchez Flores was Watford’s first manager back in the Premier League, and guided them to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and a decent mid-table finish. Walter Mazzarri took over the following year and just avoided relegation, although he was closer to the top 10 than the bottom three in terms of points.

So, could either of these two be the next man in the dugout in East London?
What do they bring?
Well Flores is currently back in management in La Liga. His Espanyol side just missed out on European qualification last season, but are struggling now. There is a succinct squawka article explaining that the problems Flores has are similar to Bilic. With little creativity coming from his wide players, the side are easy to defend against.
He is a very similar manager to Bilic, although he does seem to have a bit more tactical nous. Bilic and Flores both seem very personable, and it’s up to them to make that last. When a player becomes a friend it is hard to be a manager the same way. Would Flores be different to Bilic?
Mazzarri is a different type of manager, and has managed some top clubs in Italy. However he still only has one Coppa Italia to his name in the way of silverware. Whether he would be an improvement on Bilic is up for debate, however he is a manager who is available.

If either of these two are appointed I would assume that the choice further up the list have gone. Whilst they may be able, they are not overly exciting or ambitious picks. Whilst the board may have scrimped recently, they know this manager choice will reflect on them. If they don’t go all out, they are not going to have many happy fans.
