West Ham may have been struggling for goals of late, but their frontmen were on target in the international break.

When your team are failing to score goals it’s always a worry. A lack of goals leads to a lack of confidence and that’s hard to get out of. However West Ham fans shouldn’t worry about that, as three of their attackers hit the target for their country in the international break.

Marko Arnautovic, Chicharito and Diafra Sakho all got on the socresheet for their respective nations. Whilst the quality of the opposition vaired, it’s always a boost to grab a goal. Especially one at international level.

Bringing it to the East End

However scoring for country and club are very different. We all know players who have performed for one and not the other. Look at Enner Valencia, one of his country’s top hopes but here he couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 yards most of the time. So it’s important to look at performances as well, to see if they can translate.

Marko Arnautovic, by all accounts, was a real workhorse for Austria in their win over Serbia. Despite missing a couple of chances, one a glaring miss as he put a header wide from only a few yards, he kept running and fashioning chances. This is a good sign for the club, as his quality in front of goal will return if he gets in the right areas.

Chicharito continued to do what he does best, poach goals. His goal for Mexico wasn’t a simple finish, but required quick reflexes and adjustment to finish off his teammates saved shot. Slaven Bilic should be looking at this and realising what he’s missing out on by not playing the Mexican more centrally on a regular basis.

Sakho’s was similar in nature to Chicharito’s. However there has been an issue in the past in Bilic getting the most out of Sakho. Out of the three, I feel Sakho is the least likely to get goals back at West Ham.

Will Bilic start all three of the goalscorers in the upcoming Burnley game? Or will we see all of them shifted to accommodate Any Carroll again?
