The West Ham board should do every member of the Hammers community a favor and remove Slaven Bilic from his post as manager.

In a week in which managerial turnover has been a big part of the news West Ham have been able to fly slightly under the radar. The Bayern Munich firing of Carlo Ancelotti, though he won the league the previous season, has taken the headlines.  The fallout from that being that they have been linked with every manager under the sun to fill the prestigious post.

In East London the situation is a little different. They are a massively under achieving Premier League club and though they are sleeping giants, in this writers opinion, they are in a state of ketosis so deep only the few, the crazy or the truly mad would be willing to take the post.

The Men for the job?

Bilic has made comments in recent weeks suggesting that he wants out at the club.  Publicly shaming and insulting the owners is not the sort of thing that you do if you really want to continue in the position at length.  West Ham have been balancing on the knife’s edge of firing him or keeping him for too long and that indecision has killed his authority.  Thus, making it harder for him to succeed as manager.

The unfortunate news is the best man for the job is Thomas Tuchel.  He is the odds on favorite to be the boss at Bayern Munich next now. Had the Hammers made this decision week ago or a month ago as many wanted they could have avoided this mess. The other options that are strong are of course Luis Enrique of Barcelona fame followed by Laurent Blanc, Manolo Marquez, and Carlo Ancelotti.

Next: Why playing 5 at the back could work

West Ham need to start thinking about the future the way a big club does.  Relegation is simply something that cannot be allowed to happen. It’s a shame that David and David cannot be taken out of management of the club though because with them in charge what really is the point of debating the importance of a manager.
