Manuel Pellegrini is currently managing in China. Could West Ham bring ‘The Engineer’ back to the Premier League?
It’s clear to most that Slaven Bilic’s time at West Ham is running out. There are very few who believe he will be in the dugout at the London Stadium this time next year, and not many more who think he’ll last until the end of the season. As such it’s only natural to see who’s available and willing.
According to ExWhuEmployee on his latest podcast, two former Manchester City managers are interested. We’ve talked about Mancini before, at the end of last season. This time we’re going to have a look at Manuel Pellegrini, and why the engineer could be perfect.

From China to Stratford?
In regards to clubs managed and achievements, Pellegrini would be a classy manager to have in the dugout. He’s managed a wide range of teams and in different leagues, always managing to succeed. Those who think his time at Madrid was a failure should look at the fact he managed a then club record of 96 points in the league, but still finished second. It was also a particularly difficult time of top level interference at the club.
His time at Manchester City saw his team break the record for fastest to 100 goals in a season, and win the Premier League. He had some top players at is disposal and instilled discipline and hard work, in open play and set pieces. However this is a different managerial task to controlling the Hammers.
However he has worked with similar teams. Villareal and Malaga both had successful spells under the Chilean, both domestically and in Europe. He had to contend with financial issues at Malaga as well, but still got the best out of his players. He is a highly intelligent man who can spot when something is not working and get to the source of the issue. This, as well as his formal qualifications as a civil engineer, gave him his nickname.
Next: Masuaku should be first choice left back
Given the Hammers have a few issues, both in scoring and conceding goals, he could be perfect. Setting the talented team we have up to best get results is the first step to success, and I think Pellegrini would be a great manager to have take our team forward.
