Isolate Lukaku

Everyone knows Lukaku loves a goal against us. If Martial plays as well then we may as well give up, given that they love playing against us. Either way, United’s new signing will be the focal point for the match.

He will desperately want to get off the mark quickly, but there is a way West Ham can stop him. Last time we faced him, we did well in making sure he had no support around the top of the box. He had to drop deeper and deeper in an effort to get the ball. It was great watching him smash the ball high and wide from 30 yards.

This tactic requires Reid to simply follow Lukaku around the top of the box. Then, when the ball is played in, the players around are on his first touch. The midfield were particularly good in closing that down last time, and need to be again. Frustrate the Belgian, and we are in with a chance of coming away with all three points.
