Following what would best be described as an up and down season last year it would be in West Ham’s best interest to grab people’s attention before this season starts.
West Ham should try and make a headline signing to raise ambition, hope and the atmosphere around the club in a positive and strong manner. Whilst the window has been positive, it could still stand to get better.
It is important in football to recognise the importance of morale. Not just in the players but in the supporters and on the terraces. A quiet stadium is as good as an empty stadium and the club want neither of those things. It’s important for the Hammers to recognise that the supporters and their imaginations matter. The board should make a big signing this summer with the intention of capturing the imagination of every fan, staff member and player.

Ok, but who should it be?
To do that they should make an offer for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian player has had two massively successful years at Lazio and could be one of the factors that helps spark Lazio into the next level. He’s a massively creative and powerful player. HIs addition to the team would add a level of creativity and physicality that West Ham are currently lacking. With teams better adjusted to Lanzini next season it will be important that the club have more options.
The additions of Arnautovic and Hernandez are great for the club but adding a player like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could only make them both better. The club need to make moves like this. If they aim higher up the table there is no reason why they can’t achieve it.

Will Sergej Milinkovic-Savic be an expensive purchase? Absolutely, but these days you need to pay for quality. West Ham would be better served making one truly box office signing every or every other window than a couple of mediocre ones in that same time. The Premier League is getting harder and harder to crack every season the old methods just won’t work anymore. West Ham should get in and sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic before a bigger club does.
