West Ham have been fairly stagnant in the transfer market this summer. But Bilic still seems confident of getting his team.

West Ham fans should take heart in the dealings that have happened so far. Whilst the summer hasn’t been as active as some fans would have wanted, new contracts for main players and getting Zabaleta on a free are very promising moves.

But there are reportedly deals in the pipeline at the club, and Bilic certainly seems confident. He told the club’s official website he was expecting to add to his squad with quality soon. But he did also promote caution in the transfer market.

Pragmatic vs Optimistic

It’s easy to be critical when you’re out of the club loop, because games and media make transfers seem easy. But with top players signing new contracts, and positive news from the manager, there is hope. The manager spoke to the club website earlier this week:

"“We are pretty close, but I prefer not to talk transfers, I prefer to work transfers,” said the Hammers boss.“Make no mistake, we are working hard every day, but it is not easy.“We are working on it, but we are not going to get someone that we are not sure about.“Especially as we are not looking at bringing them in to be just in or around the squad, or expect them to come good in a couple of years.“We want someone to come in, put the jersey on, and play. And we are going to do it.”"

With Bilic standing firm over certain transfers, he seems keen to stamp his authority on the team. Iheanacho was reportedly a ‘done deal’ before Bilic pulled the plug, and so he has to do a lot (and sign a striker) to prove  that this was the right decision.

I still think Bilic will have a team of his players for this season. And if that happens he could repeat his first season at the club in terms of success. Without a Payet statured player it could be tough, but it is possible. Firepower is necessary, but he could well get it before the month is out.
