West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna has signed a new 5 year deal at the club.
Despite rumours to the contrary, Ogbonna has penned a new long term deal at West Ham. With Antonio signing earlier in the window, this is further good news for the team. Last season we suffered from a glut of mediocre talent in the squad, but keeping the quality at the club is vital to any progression the club is to make.
Whilst the board are being criticized for lack of movement in the transfer market, this is a positive sign. The best players at our club are signing on for long term deals. This should help with outward appearance, and performances on the pitch.

5 Year Plan
Although players very rarely carry out the full term of their contracts anymore, the long term contract is a sign that players are buying in to the plan of the club. Ogbonna is not a bad player in any way, and he could play at a top level for the next few years. He had offers from Italy to go back and play European football, so this is all positive.
If the board can convince a player like Ogbonna to sign a 5 year contract they must have convinced him the club is moving in the right direction. That something is happening to improve the club’s league positions. That the club will actually be making some signings soon.
There are a couple of big players I still want new contracts for, and West Ham are rumoured to have them done soon. Lanzini and Obiang were two of the best performers last season. To get them signed on would be a great morale booster all around the club.

Quality over quantity must be the way forward in East London. If the lack of action so far in the transfer market is a prelude to a few quality signings then all will be forgiven. But the fans only get the outside picture of what is happening at the club. The players get a more inside view, and they seem happy. Maybe we should give the board a few more weeks?
