3. Payet to Marseille

This one ranks so high because of media use and how fresh it is in everyone’s mind. It’s not often that someone goes from being player of the year to the muck on the underside of your shoe so quickly, but Dimitri Payet managed it.

This one hurt because Payet had stated multiple times that he wanted to stay for a long time. That he was happy in East London and got on with his team. However that was all a facade and in the space of one summer he went from the Pride of East London to a spoilt kid.

One fantastic season at the club, after a bargain of a 10.5m transfer. He was creator in chief at the club and his free-kicks that season were simply world class. He signed a huge 5 year contract at the club and got his loyalty bonus early. However speculation and reports got to his head, and suddenly Payet thought he was bigger than the club.

Summer came and a good performance in the Euros suddenly meant he thought he should be at a top European club, but West Ham refused to sell. Cue stropping, refusing to pay and media appearances stating he wants to leave. The board were forced into selling the Frenchman back to his former club Marseille for 25m.

The man could have been a legend at the club, but decided he was too good for that. Good riddance.
