5. Savio Nsereko

The man, the myth, the legend. Savio Nsereko could be the star of his own article on transfer mishaps. But as it is, for sheer weirdness, he comes in at number 5 on my list.

When Nserenko joined he was unknown. The scouting department had reportedly seen him playing in Italy and were unbelievably excited. It persuaded the board to part with a club record fee of around 9m to bring him to England. Quite simply, he was rubbish. This section on transfermarkt says enough in my eyes.

Behind the scene were stories of failing to settle and all that, but he just didn’t play well. With one assist and no goals in 10 games he was sold after only one season for a 2 million loss. It doesn’t come often, but the highlight of his career was at West Ham. After that follows TWELVE clubs, mostly free transfers and loans.

Add that all to the a fake kidnapping in Thailand and you have yourself one seriously strange player. Could he have actually had talent? Who knows. He will forever stay in the record books as one that just went away. He sits in this list as a testament to his weirdness and the complete failure of our scouting department to assess this talent and you have a very weird transfer saga.
