4-3-3
The 4-3-3 could make the most of West Ham’s strengths and mitigates their weaknesses. The team does not have a lot of pace and quite frankly lacks creativity as well. What the 4-3-3 offers is the ability to shrink the field and make the game more physical.
Think the original Jose Mourinho Chelsea. They had a big striker, a couple of wingers and the a physical midfield. West Ham can mimic that style effectively and get a lot of points over the course of the season they wouldn’t if they played in a less effective method. It will also make the most of Pablo Zabaleta at right back by not forcing him into too many offensive positions and allow Antonio and Ayew time to operate either side of Carroll or whichever striker is brought in.
In a three man midfield Lanzini can also have that license to operate as a free man behind the strikers. He can roam and have the cover he needs afforded to him by the covering central midfield duo. This is definitely a formation Slaven should consider this season.
