West Ham have been linked with many attacking players this summer. They should sell Andre Ayew whilst they have the chance.

If rumours are to be even slightly believed, West Ham are going to be signing a few attacking players this summer. As such Slaven Bilic has to be looking at the squad makeup. You can’t have too many players who want to play in the same position. It’ll breed unhappiness in the squad.

Add that to the financial constraints of transfers and for me the club should be selling Andre Ayew. There needs to be balance in all things, and if a player is attracting interest it might be wise to make the most of them in this over inflated transfer market.

The Reasons To Sell

There’s three reasons, in my opinion, for selling Andre Ayew. Firstly, if we’re going to sign two or three more attacking players he will lose out on playing time and it’s likely he will be unhappy on the bench. That’s even when you consider both of his playing positions.

All noises coming out of the club are saying they want to sign two strikers. Giroud is currently the closest to signing and the club have made Iheanacho their number one target. Ayew isn’t forcing either of those two players out of the striking role. And on the wing we have been strongly linked to Onyekuru and betting has been suspended on Traore joining the club. Along with Antonio and Feghouli that’s a lot of players on the wing.

Secondly he will fetch the best price out of the attacking players we have. Andy Carroll is permanently on the cusp of being seriously injured. Diafra Sakho seems to be a horrendous influence around the club. Feghouli wouldn’t really fetch more than 10m. Ayew has reportedly been the subject of 30m interest, which would represent a profit of around 10m in a single year, money that the Hammers could use on their transfer plans.

Also, it seems he wants to leave. His father (and agent) has even said as much. Apparently even Newcastle want to offer him somewhere else to go. Why waste money by not cashing in on a player who wants out?

Reasons To Keep

On the other hand I don’t think we saw the best of Andre Ayew last season. Yet he still scored fairly regularly when given the chance, and that is hard to replace. With goals at a premium it has to be a very good offer to see West Ham part with a goalscoring player.

Plus, right now we don’t have any of the players I mentioned earlier. Until transfers are nearing completion or, even batter, have been completed there should be no talk of getting rid of the better players in our squad. Whilst the squad needs thinning it needs to be done from the bottom up. The best players need to be kept around if possible.

But that’s just my opinion, and the board are the ones making the decision. What would you do if you were in the board’s position, sell up or keep?
