West Ham have entered the race for ‘French Andy Carroll’ Olivier Giroud who appears to be on his way out of Arsenal.

Olivier Giroud would be a sound buy for West Ham.   The 6’4’’ striker has hit the age 30 mark and appears to wish to stay in London. For years now West Ham have been let down by the fragile, expensive and at times uninterested Andy Carroll. For all the criticisms of Giroud one thing is true. The man scores goals.

Giroud is an excellent line leading striker. With West Ham surely moving towards playing with a two striker system Giroud could be the like for like replacement for Carroll that West Ham need. The truth is rather simple. The club won’t entirely change it’s style of football in one season and they shouldn’t. When the club is firing on all cylinders Bilic’s style of football suits the Premier League, it is entertaining and effective.

Same Style, Just Better

The only issue is that he needs a big striker who can hold the ball up and get his head to the ball on occasion from set pieces and inswinging crosses. Giroud is that player in the same that a healthy Carroll is. The only issue is that Andy Carroll only plays 50% of the time.

That simply can’t be built around. Giroud is a proven premier league striker who the Hammerscan add for cheap. He will bring world class level experience to the relatively young team and put the ball in the bloody net.

Giroud is a perfect puzzle piece to stick into the team’s offense. What the side need then is find the complimentary pieces. Lanzini seems like the player to replace he-who-shall-not-be-named and then a strong and creative support striker should come next.

Andre Ayew should be moved out wide. His finishing simply isn’t good enough that he can play as a main striker. He is an effective winger so let him be one. If Henry Onyekuru, Kelechi Iheanacho or Michy Batshuayi come in then they alongside Giroud is a fantastic move for the club.
