According to the Daily Star West Ham are preparing at 10 million pound bid for Manchester United’s Chris Smalling.
With the addition of Victor “The Iceman” Lindelof to Jose Mourinho’s set up at Old Trafford Chris Smalling appears to be the member of the team most likely to get the axe. If West Ham can add him for anything under 17 million then that will be a very well done piece of business.
Chris Smalling is a better player than he is getting credit for at Old Trafford. Some of his early season injury issues have been very unfairly held against him and it’s about time that he make something of the issue. Chris Smalling is an England international and a more than decent center half.

Squad Strengthening
Some of the most ridiculous play to come out of East London last term came from the bumbling play at the center half position. In a league as stocked with attacking talent as the Premier League that simply isn’t good enough. To be able to compete you need to be able to defend. The spine of this team is more silk than steel and that simply won’t succeed.
With the board valuing Chris Smalling at closer to 10 million while Old Trafford business bosses are holding out for 15 million their is still a fair bit of negotiation to go on. But either way if the Hammers can find a way to meet in the middle then this is the sort of deal that helps the team move up the table almost immediately.

With a deal for Smalling, perhaps for Giroud and Onyekuru the West Ham team next season will be looking far stronger than the last. There were already a lot of positive notes for the Irons to build on in the future with the current team. If they can get a few pieces of business done this summer then West Ham supporters should feel very good moving forward.
