West Ham have a strong history with producing young players. Could one of their top talents about to be leaving on loan for the season.

West Ham have not had the best few seasons in the league or as a club in general. The stadium move has alienated a large number of people and with fewer and fewer teenagers coming through some of the fans feel that the club is losing its soul.

So when Reece Oxford set to go on loan to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, fans are split. Can the Hammers afford to let one of their best prospects out of the club again? Or is it the best way to allow a top talent to develop?

Reece Oxford

Quite simply it’s hard for a teenager to make a sustained impact in the Premier League. With the amount of money pouring in the physicality and pace of the league has just increased in the recent years. Moving to another league makes sense if the club wants its top talents to develop. And the Bundesliga is no second rate pool.

The club also has a good record in playing loaned players. Many clubs will favour their own above others they bring in temporarily, because it makes long term sense. However that doesn’t seem to be the case at BM. You only have to look at a recent Chelsea loanee to see that

There can also be a lot to learn in these moves, when it’s clear that Oxford isn’t good enough for the first team quite yet.

You can also appreciate that this may be a move to keep the player happy more than anything. With a lot of players ahead of him in the squad it is a hard position to be in. A loan move could give him experience and progress his talent. It could prove to be a win-win for all involved.
