West Ham’s striker targets have been well documented in the media. Which of the main four striker targets would you like to see the club sign?

If you’ve been a West Ham fan for anything longer than 6 months, you’ll know we have a striker issue. A consistent striker seems to be completely elusive, despite board promises to the contrary. But the papers seem to be fairly confident the Hammers will sign another one this summer.

Four names have been linked in most reports, and they seem fairly realistic. Especially given the pipe-dreams that the board seem to have been chasing for the past few seasons and windows. Which one would you like to see?

Jermain Defoe

The veteran striker won’t be at Sunderland next season, because he’s not going to hang around the Championship. As such, he will be looking at the Premier League just to go for the last few years of his career. The Hammers are one of the main contenders for his signature.

If they were to sign him it would be a big wage packet, and it would only be a couple of years at most given his advancing age and declining speed. However it wouldn’t need a fee to be paid to his club.

The Hammers have competition in the league, mainly from former club Bournemouth. They have strong financial backing and have lacked a scorer up front to supplement Josh King’s goalscoring exploits in the League. Should the Irons be looking at fighting bigger clubs than Bournemouth for signings? It doesn’t exactly scream ambition.

Daniel Sturridge (Loan to Buy)

Sturridge is a top class striker, there’s no doubt about it. However what has put off a lot of top clubs and fans is that his injury record is no better than Andy Carroll’s, which isn’t exactly the best thing when trying to sort out a squad. Would it be worth the signing?

Well it seems that most of the reports have been putting the move down as a loan to buy. This makes sense, because you don’t want to outlay 15m+ just to see him sit on the bench. As such, a year proving himself may be the way forwards if any move was to be made.

If the Hammers were to move there they would be signing a top finisher. Given his lack of play he showed that against us, and he can certainly upgrade our attack. But would he be playing enough for a transfer to actually count? That’s the question.

Kelechi Iheanacho

The youngest player on this list, he is still a decent goalscorer at Premier League level. However after the signing of Gabriel Jesus Manchester City have not needed the youngster in their plans and he is likely to be moving on in the transfer window.

Must Read: Whats wrong with the Hammers' midfield?

Safe to say that he will not be short of suitors going into the window, with decent clubs from all over Europe looking to sign him. That might hurt the Hammers, because they can’t offer European football. If a young player wants to make his name in continental competition he can’t do that at West Ham.

However he would be the Hammers No.1 striker, and that’s a big draw. Especially given that he has spent years on the bench, but the Hammers need to be keen. They can’t be waiting around to see what else happens in the market, or keeping an eye on things, because he will leave the club this summer to somewhere.

Michy Batshuayi

If reports are to believed, then this is the number one striker target for the summer. Having spent most of Chelsea’s season on the bench, he has scored a couple of important goals towards the end of the year and grabbed some media attention.

Could the Hammers land their man? Well it’s easy to suggest he wouldn’t leave Chelsea if happy, but can he really achieve more there? I don’t think he’s ready to lead the line at a top club like that, so it makes sense to look elsewhere now he’s won a title in such dramatic fashion.

If West Ham can get him it would be a solid signing. He’s physical and technical whilst always working hard. It certainly wouldn’t be too pricey if it was around 30m, because he’s a top acquisition for his age and can certainly lead the line for the next couple of seasons at least.
