Liverpool match gives West Ham a big opportunity
When West Ham take on Liverpool tomorrow, they have a big opportunity.
Obviously it is always a big match when taking on team like Liverpool, but it could be more for West Ham. That might sound strange given that it’s almost the end of the season. Especially with no European qualification or relegation battle for the Hammers.
With the summer approaching and the transfer window only around the corner, all places are important. And given the season the side have had, another big win would be a huge boost for the stadium.

League Position
As mentioned recently, pushing up the league is vital. With the mid-table sides all congested it is important to note that two wins before the end of the season could see the Hammers push up into the top 10 and claim a semi-respectable league position.
Not only does that come with extra prize money, but it helps in attracting players. If you’re in the top half it shows that you’re not too far away from pushing into Europe. If you’re in the bottom half, you’re only just avoiding relegation.
With a better mindset the players the club can attract will be of a higher calibre. Young players with lots of potential could see West Ham as a solid club which would offer them the balance of first team football and realistically competitive football. It’s not much fun playing week in week out getting thumped every time.
Big Scalp
Last weeks’ win against Spurs was the first one against a big team at the London Stadium. For the first time in a while the side look settled and ready to take on the big boys over 90 minutes. With the uproar and unrest caused by the stadium move, another big win would settle the fans.
Many fans blame the stadium for the poor home form, as strange as that may sound. When the results aren’t going your way it’s easy to find scapegoats in new things. Getting the win against Liverpool would prove that the Hammers can take it to the big teams at home and set up the next season well.
Next: Who will be leaving West Ham this summer?
It would also again help to attract players. Getting wins against big teams makes you believe a side has potential.
The match against Liverpool is far more than another match to fill the program. The Hammers must approach it the same way they did the Spurs game if they’re to get anything from it at all.
