Two Copa Libertadores Prospects West Ham Should Sign
If you read my colleague Amanda Paula’s article then the idea may have occurred to you that West Ham could get some talent and some good deals from the current crop of South American players who are tearing apart the Copa Libertadores.
Having read her article myself I decided to scout some of the players in the tournament and find some players who I think would represent good business for West Ham this summer.
Nahitan Nandez (20) – Penarol FC (Uruguay)
If you’ve read this site for a while then you understand how poor of a midfield I think West Ham have. Without a good midfield you simply will not be a good football club end of story. Mark Noble does his job honorably week in and week out but with him alone out there the Hammers can’t possibly hope to be a top table club. The midfield lacks dynamism, work-rate and creativity.

All of those problems are solved my Nahitan Nandez. Nandez has an incredible work rate and is a great tackler. What he has coupled with that is great vision and a range of passing that could turn him into a box-to-box midfielder for the ages. He is a wonderful young player and according to German football website transfermarkt has a market value currently of only 2.75 million euros. If West Ham can sign Nandez it would be a steal that immediately improved the team now and set the sights far higher up the table in the future.
Santiago Ascaibar (20) – Estudiantes FC (Argentina)
Another recruit for the technically bereft and dry and West Ham midfield would be Santiago Ascaibar. The defensive midfield specialist seems to be a combination of Javier Mascherano, Arturo Vidal and Estaban Cambiasso. His tackling ability is unbelievable for someone his age and with his amount of experience.
Next: The Hammers should push reboot this summer
He could truly anchor a midfield three in a way that West Ham need. He is incredibly quick and reads the game beautifully and did I mention how good of a tackler he is? His work rate and physicality bode well for a transfer over to the Premier League and according to transfermarkt his value is about 7.5 million euros.
