Shot Accuracy

The number of shots may have been similar, but the accuracy of them is where the Frenchman comes out on top.

More from Analysis

As mentioned in the previous slide, Payet did have more shots from a closer range. This may go some way to explaining why Payet’s accuracy, at 55%, is around 20% higher than Lanzini’s at 38%. This is one of the biggest differences between the two players.

Whilst Lanzini regularly gets himself into good areas around the box, his accuracy is often lacking. Payet was a constant danger when close to the goal, and you always thought he’d find the corner of the goal.

I feel it will get better with age for the Argentinian, because composure isn’t always natural. The more often you find yourself in and around goal, the better you can get at finishing the chances. But at the moment he definitely loses when it comes to getting his shots on goal.

So that’s 2-1 to Payet, but how does their defensive  workrate compare?
