Taking Shots

One part of being an attacking midfielder is getting your shots away. Both Payet and Lanzini occupy similar positions on the pitch and as such should be expected to get the same amount of efforts on goal per match.

And the results are as you’d expect. There’s very little to choose between the two of them at all. Payet edges it ever so slightly, but I will put that down to Lanzini’s struggles at the start of the season rather than an overall trend.

Taking a bit of a look into where the shots are taken, Payet took more from a closer range. Despite Lanzini seemingly occupying a more striker like role a lot of his efforts come from outside the box, and his runs through the defence are often out wide rather than directly at the goal.

As such they both offer a similar threat to the goal, although Payet does get closer on average. However it’s so close that this one I am going to give as a draw. I think if Lanzini had been playing without Payet all season he would have better numbers, and it’s not fair to mark him down for that.

So it’s still 1-1, how about the accuracy of these shots?
