West Ham Should Make an Offer for Youri Tielemans
West Ham should be chasing Anderlecht starlet Youri Tielemans.
The player currently being chased by Everton and Tottenham would be a perfect addition to the West Ham squad for all of today, tomorrow and the next several years. Although Tielmans’ just 19 has already made over 150 appearances for the high-flying Belgian club and appears ready to leave this summer.
I have said this time and again that West Ham are far too conservative in their transfer spending. It is almost as if the people in charge don’t believe that the side can be better than mid-table. If they think that then let me tell you one thing, they’re wrong. If a club can spend 20.5 million pounds on a 27 year old striker then they can afford younger players for the same fee who will be around longer.

What’s the cost?
Anderlecht’s sporting director recently stated that it will cost more than the 14 million or so pounds that have been of offer from those two clubs to do the trick. According to Belgian news source nieuwsblad.be it will be about 22 million euros of 18.75 million pounds that does the trick. West Ham should pull the trigger here immediately. Tielemans would add a lot of class and technical accomplishment to the midfield.
For example if the board are really able to move Pedro Obiang to Liverpool as has been bandied about West Ham should move into a 4-3-3 and play Tielemans alongside Noble and another midfielder.
West Ham need to start chasing players of this caliber but at a younger age because there are only benefits to getting in early. If he succeeds and makes the club better then the Irons are suddenly competing for at least Europa league spots every year if not the Champions League. If they don’t get that far then Tielemans has tested himself at a higher level and there’s no reason to believe he can’t be moved on at age 22-24 for upwards of 40 million pounds.
A move for Tielemans is a move in the right direction. West Ham need to get on board. Clubs in direct competition with them like Everton and Tottenham have seen the light now it is time that the Hammers do as well.
