Now that Dimitri Payet’s transfer to Marseille is done and dusted it is an important time for West Ham.

David Sullivan admitted that what he wanted was to make an example out of Payet. This writer agreed with him. That sort of insubordination can destroy an organization. Payet was beyond disrespectful towards the club, the fans, his teammates and all of the staff with his behavior.

That said getting his irksome attitude out of the team as fast as possible makes sense. The fact that West Ham were able to pick up a tidy 15 million profit on the transaction isn’t bad either.

One of the things that made the entire situation easier to stomach was the fact that after Payet showed his true colors so did the rest of the squad. They banded together and have now produced some of their best form and football for the full season. It is interesting seeing Andy Carroll maturing into a leader alongside Noble.

Transfer Sensibility

The club needs to do a good job moving forward to make sure that this atmosphere and chemistry remains. Adding Snodgrass to the side was good and now West Ham should try and consolidate that ever so important chemistry that the squad has developed. Too many new additions can destabilize a locker room. Having been through the storm together this West Ham side appears more tightly knit than before and that will be the most important thing going forward.

With Snodgrass and Lanzini both in the side they are not going to be lacking creativity. The team has a lot of potential and so towards the end of this incredibly trying season if West Ham can pair some of that creative quality with the solidarity and team spirit they have generated so far it is not out of the realm of plausibility that they could perhaps even finish in the top-8.

That, would be the best reaction to Payet. To win games without him and show that no matter how good you are, how fancy your cars or your hair no lone man is bigger than the club. It is the name stitched on the front of the shirt over the heart that matters more than the one printed on the back.
