It seems that every footballer worth anything is being linked with China right now. Payet was linked with a 50m move last year, even if that was largely media fabrication. In fact it was this speculation that lead to the new contract, and this tweet

However I would be surprised to see him go to China. Despite the fact it would boost his ego to be lorded as a god like footballer, he is after a big move. The man wants to play top tier football still and I can’t fault him for that. I can fault him for being unprofessional though.
Don’t get me wrong he does love the money that football brings. However I would imagine he’ll give another club 2/3 years before throwing all the toys out of the pram and getting a big move to China. One for the future, but not yet.
The next place I can definitely see him being interested in.
