West Ham were totally outplayed by a rampant Manchester City side in the first ever FA Cup match at the London Stadium.

The players lacked passion, pride and intensity, and once the flood gates opened the match was only ever going to go one way. But how did we rate their individual performances?

Adrian 7

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Adrian as he was consistently let down by poor organisation ahead of him. There was very little he could have done about any of the goals West Ham conceded and without his athleticism and reactions it could have been far worse!

Havard Nordveidt 4

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Nordveidt struggled to fill in for the missing Kouyate. He will take time to get comfortable in the back 3 but too often he was out of line with the rest of the defence and playing Raheem Sterling onside. His own goal may have been necessary due to Sterling’s presence behind him, but it does sum up his contribution so far.

Winston Reid 8 (MOTM)

Reid was at his imperious best against Man City. He has been one of our best performers all season and tonight was no exception as he dominated the aerial battle with City’s strikers and showed excellent composure when bringing the ball out of defence. He also pulled off one of the best tackles you’ll see when he raced back to dispossess Sterling in the box.

Angelo Ogbonna 5

You could argue that Ogbonna was unlucky to concede the penalty, but it was a rash challenge and he did make contact with Zabaleta. The Italian just doesn’t seem to fit in a back 3 and, like Nordveidt, was often out of position or lost his man in the box.

Aaron Cresswell 6

It was a difficult night for Cresswell as he was pegged back by the pace and movement of Man City and unable to influence the match further up the pitch. He was tidy when he had the ball, but could not get on it often enough and did not fare well up against a City attack that tore through our midfield and defence.

Edimilson Fernandes 6

Fernandes worked hard against City, but had a thankless task chasing shadows around the centre of the pitch. He pressed City well and was composed when he won the ball back, but he could not make his mark on a game that was beyond West Ham from very early on.

Pedro Obiang 5

Obiang has had a good season so far, but in this FA Cup tie he was almost absent. He is supposed to anchor the midfield and protect the defence, but he barely troubled the Man City attackers as they poured past him time after time.

Manuel Lanzini 5

Lanzini does not fit well into the current system and his ability to create something out of nothing often goes to waste when he is expected to work back as well. Against Man City he did not influence the match at all and his attacking nature was horribly exposed as our opponents walked unimpeded through the midfield.

Michail Antonio 7

You can never fault his work rate and Antonio ran himself into the ground against Man City. He did what was asked of him as he tracked back and tried to deal with the marauding City attackers, while also offering a threat from the wing, and later up front.

Sofiane Feghouli 4

After going 1-0 down, we were given a golden opportunity to draw level and show that we were not going to go down without a fight. However, that chance fell to Feghouli and he somehow managed to put it wide. It was probably harder to miss, yet he managed it! He ran into blind alleyways, gave the ball away and struggled to create a decent chance all game.

Andy Carroll 6

Carroll worked hard for the Hammers and tried his best to deal with the poor service he received. His role was mostly picking up clearances and trying to allow the defence some respite, but as he was consistently isolated and surrounded by defenders he was unable to have a real effect on the match.

Mark Noble 7

Noble was introduced after watching the abominable first half capitulation and he did bring more stability and composure to the midfield. His simple passing and positive attitude are what the other players should try to emulate, as he was one of the few people in a West Ham shirt with pride and passion.

Dimitri Payet 5

Rumours abound that Payet is on his way out of the club, but he will be hoping any new suitors did not see his performance against Man City. He had an occasional magic touch (it was good to see Aguero be nutmegged), but when he had a real chance to affect the match with corners and free kicks they were ineffective, much like his performance overall.

Ashley Fletcher 6

Fletcher was given the thankless task of leading the line after the game was already lost. He was pressing the defence as best he could, but without much support he could not do much with or without the ball.
