This season may not be going quite to plan, but West Ham seem to be planning for the future. Ahead of reportedly tying Reece Oxford down, they have managed to sign Quina on a pro contract.

The young Portuguese star joined West Ham after he was released by Chelsea at the end of a youth contract. Reportedly it was not what Chelsea wanted to do however the player was not happy at their plans for him. This was a young man who wanted to be able to get into the first team a bit quicker, but remain in the top leagues.

He has gelled in with the young U23 and development squad, scoring some great goals in the process. His attacking mind and skill has been on show for some time, especially in the U17 championships in Azerbaijan where his Portugal team put on a show for the dismantling of the young England side.

Domingos Quina

If you don’t know too much about the youngster, I’m not too surprised. His only appearances for the club so far have been for a combined 15 minutes in the two legs against Domazale earlier in the season. He was also seen in the Juventus friendly. But there is a lot of promise to be seen in the young man.

As an attacking midfielder, he can contribute both goals and creativity. In terms of our current squad, he is most similar to Lanzini. However he is extremely quick and powerful coming forward, where Lanzini can be seen as more dainty.

The Manager

His creativity, and vision in seeing where he will be best at use, is something that the coaches have commented on. Slaven Bilic said at the signing:

"I am personally delighted with the news. We know a lot about him and he came away with us on pre-season.“He is one of those players that you think if he doesn’t make it, then which player will?“He has got everything and it is now down to us and up to him how much he is going to improve and dedicate his life to achieve something that God gave him. There is no doubt he has something exceptional.“He is skilful and is one of those players who doesn’t have to think about his first touch because it comes so naturally to him.“He is not afraid of challenges and has skill and vision. I have named everything and that is why is we are so happy to see him sign a contract.”"

It would be great to see more youngsters coming through, and Bilic is a big believer in youth. It is only the current position that West Ham find themselves in that is stopping more youngsters come through. The loss of European competition was also a big issue, as that would have provided more matches for the youngsters to show there skills on the big stage.
